Civil Law Court Resident Judge Kennedy Peabody has canceled the legal proceeding between Circuit Court Judges and the Government of Liberia after the matter was assigned for Friday, October 8.
The Court Friday confirmed to our Judicial Correspondent that Judge Peabody revoked his previous notice of assignment a day for hearing consistent with the law.
Though details surrounding Judge Peabody’s revocation on the matter remain unknown, the report says it is due to behind the scene discussions with Judges by the government of Liberia after the Weah administration pleaded with the Civil Law Court to intervene in the matter.
On September 3, Circuit and Specialized Courts’ Judges filed a fourteen count petition for declaratory judgment at the Civil Law Court against the Weah’s administration over the slashing of their salaries through the harmonization exercise in 2019.
The Judges claimed that the action of the Weah administration to reduce their incomes violate Article 72(a) of the 1986 Constitution and the Judicial Canon Number (6) of the Judiciary Law of Liberia.
