The Armed Forces of Liberia has release reports from the Ministry of Justice on investigation surrounding an alleged rape allegation against Lieutenant Colonel. Nyankun Williams.
Reading the reports Tuesday during a press conference, AFL Chief of Staff General Prince C Johnson said during the investigation Military Unit found out lack of corroboration in the evidence provided to link suspect Nyankun Williams to the commission of the crime of Rape.
According to General Johnson, on April 26, 2021 Sergeant Obento Roberts of the Armed Forces of Liberia complained Lieutenant Colonel Nyankun Williams of having sexual intercourse with his 16 years old daughter.
He said following the receipt of the complainant, a communication was sent to the Military Police Unit which is the investigative unit of the AFL to conduct an immediate investigation into the allegation levied against Lieutenant Colonel Williams.
Johnson also said following an investigation by Military Unit and facts and circumstances established during the investigation by the Units, the AFL also sent the investigation to the Women and Children Protection section of the Liberian National Police for further investigation.
He at the same time said that the Ministry of Justice transmitted the findings of the investigation into an allegation of rape involving Lieutenant Colonel Nyankun Williams. General Johnson further noted that all the statements recorded from witnesses during the investigation lack corroboration to link suspect Nyankun Williams to the commission of the crime Rape; as such Col. Nyankum Williams is not guilty of the crime.
