President George Weah Tuesday convened a Special Disaster Monitoring Stakeholders meeting aimed at addressing damages incurred as a result of recent fire disasters in Central Monrovia, and Margibi County, and the sinking of the Niko Ivanka vessel in July.
It can be recalled, the biggest public referral hospital in Margibi County, the C.H. Rennie Hospital, was gutted by fire Sunday, and a major annex burned down completely, while a fuel tanker burst into flames on Saturday on Water Street in Monrovia, destroying countless private properties, including business centers.
Speaking to Freedom News following the meeting, the Deputy Executive Director for Operations at the National Disaster Management Agency Augustine Tamba said the meeting centered on discussions that will prevent the reoccurrence of the incidents.
Tamba also disclosed that the NDMA was mandated by the Liberian Leader to carry out its humanitarian role as part of the Agency’s response mechanism.
He added that the meeting has several components, and more decisions will be reached during another meeting on Friday of this week.
