Residents and Petty Traders in the Omega Market in Paynesville, on Tuesday, staged a protest resisting the removal of the current Commander of the Omega depot, Mala Diggs.
The protesters through their spokesperson Emmanuel Jackson stated that they do not support the removal of Madam Diggs, on grounds that she has been instrumental in maintaining peace and providing security for the Omega Community.
Jackson alleged that that the individual who is expected to replace the current Omega depot Commander, only identified as Baysah, lacks the character to manage the depot.
He disclosed that Officer Baysah had a dismal performance in Red-light, and his operations affected Marketers prior to the relocation of the Market.
The protesters are calling on authorities of the Liberia National Police, to withdraw the appointment of officer Baysah as Commander of the Omega depot, to prevent chaos in the Community and the Market.
Meanwhile, when contacted by Freedom News to address the concern of the protesting Petty Traders and Residents of the Omega Community, Police Spokesman Moses Carter said the situation is internal and is not for the consumption of the public.
