Infrastructure development has been and still remains a huge challenge for underdeveloped Countries of which Liberia is no exception.
However, gradual efforts have been made by the current government headed by President George Weah to help narrow such huge gaps that have existed for several decades.
Well as a means of practically improving such, the Government of Liberia through the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment has announced the construction of twenty mini stadiums across Liberia.
The initiative is part of several commitments made by the Chief Patron of Sports during the Citizens Engagement County Tour.
Like other sectors of the Country, sports infrastructure has been lacking and a great hindrance to the promotion of would-be talents across Liberia but with the newest disclosure, light is gradually returning to one of the most and entertaining sectors of the Country
Even though there has been debates and mixed views amongst stakeholders that the sector in which the Chief Patron of Sports has his roots and solid background s yet to exclusively highlight sports developments in his annual report to the nation including the lack of attractive budgetary support for the promotion of the sector but with the plan construction of the mini stadiums among others, it appears like more and new attentions will be given to the sector going forward.
Already and through the World Football governing body (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Liberia has benefited from three mini-stadium Constructions in Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties.
The Samuel Kanyan Doe practice pitch in Paynesville, the Tusa sports pitch in Garnesville, and the Doris Williams Sports stadium in Buchanan Grand Bassa County all regularly operational are testimonies of the said initiative.
Additionally, the Government as part of Chief Patron was of Sports personal initiative especially hailing from such foundation is undertaking two recreational and sporting facilities /projects to include; the invincible Park project in the Fish Market area which has so far reached an appreciable level and the soon to be PHP Unity sports Park facility in the PHP community respectively.
Well, and unlike the three FIFA/ CAF projects, the twenty mini stadiums to be constructed by the Chief Patron of Sports in rural Liberia according to the Executive Director of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment ( LACE) Pepci Quiwu Yeke will be a fence with bathroom facilities and an approximately capacity of over five hundred to thousand people among others.
He said the mini stadiums will serve as a boost and motivation for would-be talents to showcase their skills across rural Liberia as the government will work harder to create the enabling environment and platform for them to maximize their full potential.
Meanwhile, the Stadiums project like other Presidential commitments and or projects is expected to begin soon.
