National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority Director-General Emma Glasco have announced the arrival of a forty feet consignment of over five hundred pieces of YAMAHA outboard engine for Canoe fishermen in the Country.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing in Monrovia Thursday, Madam Glasco said the consignment is from the Peoples Republic of Japan, following a request by President George Weah in 2019.
The NAFAA boss furthered that the engines will help Fishermen with canoes earn more than what they earned over time using their energy.
Madam Glasco at the same time disclosed that President Weah is expected to launch an unprecedented initiative in October of this year in Grand Bassa County, adding that it is with the support of the Liberian Leader that the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority is making immense progress.
Meanwhile, to avoid commotion between the Authority and fishermen, Madam Glasco is calling on Fishermen across the country to be associated with a Cooperative or a collaborative management Association as a means of ensuring that they are beneficiaries of the consignment from the People’s Republic of Japan.
