Liberia National Team Head Coach Peter Butler has described Sam Johnson, as unfit to make the current squad; as such he is developing a new energetic strike force for the Lone Star.
Butler said Johnson’s current performance is unfit to meet ninety minutes display and his selection to the squad, will mean taking a passenger on board who will not be useful to the team.
Addressing a press conference Monday, ahead of Lonestar International friendly with Egypt, slated for September 30, he said Johnson and other former players have contributed to the National Team, but his focus is now on young players at the moment.
The coach further noted that he is developing a new and energetic striking force that will produce the necessary results for the country.
Coach Butler also expressed concern about improving local players to meet up with the potential of others who are playing outside of the country.
He at the same time said that he is so far impressed with the level of young talents especially those from the local scene, but more work needs to be done to fully develop them.
However, reacting to Butler’s statement, Sam Johnson says the decision is personal and not based on poor performance as claimed by Butler.
Johnson further noted that he is not willing to play under Butler due to lack of trust as well as constant interference of some LFA officials into the national team activities, due to personal issues.
