Solicitor General Cllr. Syrreinus Cephus is pushing for a maximum jail sentence of political activist, Emmanuel Gonqueh, following Monday’s ruling from the Monrovia City Court.
Cllr. Cephus told Judicial Reporters that his quest to see a maximum jail sentence of no lesser than one year is to send a warning against Gonqueh repeating such an act.
On Monday, the Monrovia City Court convicted defendant Emmanuel Gonqueh, others for assaulting assigned officers at the Capitol Building on July 21.
Judge Jumah Jallah Monday announced defendant Gonqueh and others conviction verdict following his open confession during a trial conference on August 27, to avoid wasting the Court trial and with pleas to temple justice with mercy.
Judge Jallah’s October 25, verdict according to our reporter, also placed a hold on the defendants’ sentence, to allow the Probate Officers of Montserrado County to conduct a pre-sentencing investigation on the defendants, consistent with Chapter 31, Section 31.5 of the Presentencing Guideline Booklet.
It can be recalled, on July 21, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia and others were accused of attacking assigned security officers at the Capitol Building when they forcibly locked the main gate to the building in protest of the 30-Thousand United States Dollars received by lawmakers.
They were charged for multiple offenses ranging from terrorist threats, simple assault, felonious restraint, and disorderly conduct.
