Grand Bassa County District #3 Representative Matthew Joe is requesting the House of Representative to invite before its plenary the Minister of Education, Proffer Anus Sonii, to explain the reason why the arrears about $22,500 United States dollars of the William V.S Tubman Elementary & Junior High School in Buchanan City, has not been paid.
Speaking during the Thursday sitting of the Lower House, Representative Joe said for too long residents of the property have been engaging his office for redress; as such it is important the Minister of Education provide reason relating to the growing concern within his district.
He added that the owners of the facilities have alleged that the government owes them over five years, noting that several communications have been sent to the Ministry to address the situation but to no avail.
Representative Joe further stressed that if the Ministry of Education does not intervene in the matter speedily, over 500 students will be denied quality education this academic year.
Meanwhile, Lofa County District #3 Representative Clarence Massaquoi and Margibi County District # 4 Representative Ben Fofana provided separate views relating to the matter and suggested that the communication be forwarded to the committee on education for a speedy investigation into the matter.
