
The Ministry of Health cautioned citizens not to panic over information about a new Covid-19 variant Omicron, which is being reported in South Africa.
Addressing the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism Special Press briefing in Monrovia Tuesday, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah said though the Omicron Variant is of concern the situation does not call for the public to panic.
She however called on citizens to continue adhering to all prescribed health protocols and to get vaccinated.
Dr. Jallah at the same time said the Ministry has increased awareness at the airport and will continue testing individuals traveling to and from the Country, as part of precautionary measures.
For his part, World Health Organization country Director Dr. Peter Clement acknowledged that the Omicron variant is contagious and encouraged Liberians to Fast-track the vaccination process and follow all preventive measures to contain Covid-19.
