The Government of Liberia through its official organizers, the Ministries of Youth and Sports and Internal Affairs have announced that all is now set for the official commencement of the 2021/2022 edition of the National County Sports Meet.
The biggest sporting event in the country according to the Youth and Sports Minister D. Zeogar Wilson will kickstart on December 11, 2021, in Kakata City Margibi County for the official opening while the four venues are expected to come alive on Sunday, December 12, 2021, simultaneously with classical sporting encounters.
He said this year’s month-long event will showcase five disciplines namely; Football, Kickball, Basketball, Volleyball, and Athletics.
He named Kakata City Margibi County, Sanniquellie Nimba County, Tubmanburg Bomi County, and Zwedru Grand Gedeh County as the four venues set for the preliminary stages of the competition while the quarter, semi, and grand finals will take place in Paynesville, at the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex in Montserrado County.
He told reporters that they are working very hard under this year’s team to ensure that sports are not left out of the bi-centennial celebrations.
As part of the government support to the event, Minister Wilson disclosed that it has budgeted $USD 500,000 with each County to receive $USD21,000.00
Also speaking at the press conference to mark the official launch of the event was Internal Affairs Minister Varney Sirleaf who noted that this year’s theme is befitting for the month-long event.
He urged Liberians to use the tournament to reflect on the 200 years of existence of the Country and to work together for the betterment of society.
“Let’s use the County meet to unite with one another and not to tear each other apart, “we are all winners once we wear the jerseys “, he told all participating teams.
As for the Chief marketing and communications officer of Orange Liberia Julien Paquier, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to officially sponsor the National County Sports Meet.
He Said it brings the company joy to see the passion and excitement that the County meet brings to the people, many of whom are their customers.
Like the previous editions which they have sponsored, Mr. Paquire stated that Orange Liberia has lots of prices to give out to its many subscribers and is prepared to do more for the promotion of sports in Liberia through their corporate social responsibility.
The distribution of promotional materials, the printing of tickets including cash of USD $40,000.00 to the organizers among many others are part of the sponsorship package and contribution from Orange Liberia to this year’s edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, tickets for the quarter, semi, and grand finals of the tournament printed in Israel will be in the Country soon while the price will range from $LD300.00 to 30.00USD respectively.
