President Cautions Citizens to Give Liberia National Team Time
Despite failing to qualify for both African Nations Cup and World Cup scheduled for 2022, President George Weah said he is not disappointed in the performance of the current Lonestar Squad.
Speaking with journalists during an inspection at the Invincible Sports Park in Sinkor Wednesday, the Liberian Chief Patron of Sports said the current team is new, as such, it will take time for players to develop and produce the needed results for the country.
We did it, remember you people used to call us a ‘did well’ team, but when we went for training in Brazil and came back, all our players had the opportunity to go out and play in the European leagues. After that, we had one of the great teams in Africa. So this is a new team,” President Weah told journalists Wednesday, December 8, 2021, when he paid an inspection visit to the Invincible Park project site.
He at the same time called on citizens to keep supporting the national team, calling on those that are given the chance to form part of the national team to play with their heart.
He further stated that the construction of the Invincible Park that is scheduled to be dedicated on February 11, will help the country in producing better players for the future.
The Invincible Park is an amusement center that consists of sports pitches and a prayer center which includes, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennisball, etc.
