
Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency says, it has with immediate effects, terminated the service of one of its Officer, Jimmy Gayeyou, and subjected him to investigation for allegedly whipping a resident of Schiefflin Town on allegation of stealing his telephone.
Speaking at a news conference Tuesday, LDEA Communication Officer Michael Jiplay said Officer Gayeyou’s action contravenes the ethics of the force to include, flogging of a resident of Schiefflin Town Margibi on the criminal allegation.
According to Jiplah, immediately following a complaint by the survivor, LDEA took seize of the matter and place Officer Gayeyou under an investigation which has established that the officer was liable for brutalizing the victim on the said allegation.
He further noted that as part of an effort to ensure justice for the survivor, the authority of the LDEA is working on a modality to investigate others in connection to the allegedly flogging saga.
He said the LDEA is committed to penalizing those in the habit of damaging the image of the institution.
Officer Jimmy Gayeyou was assigned at the Schiefflin Township LDEA Detachment as one of the senior officers before carrying out the act.
In a separate development, Jiplah calls on the National Legislature to consider taking steps to concord with the Lower House in the passage of the 2021 amended drug law.
At the same time, Jiplay noted that the passage of the Drugs Law will address the growing wave of abuse against young people and will equally alleviate the increase in crime rates across the country.
In a related development, the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency has revealed that following investigation into an alleged armed robbery case, LDEA Professional Standards Division has recommended the dismissal of four of its officers who were assigned at the Johnsonville detachment.
The four officers to include Jeremiah Nippy, Emmanuel Duo, Bill Slewro, and Emmanuel Payne were being investigated by the LDEA Professional Standards Division.
It can be recalled Nippy, Duo, Slewro, and Payne were allegedly involved with armed robbery, making away with US Two Thousand and other valuables belonging to an unidentified businesswoman.
LDEA Communication Officer Michael Jiplay on Tuesday said the agency Professional Standards Division investigation proved that the four officers were found guilty of making away with said amount
According to him, the four officers are responsible for restitution of the full amount of US$ Two Thousand and Forty Dollars plus 50 Thousand Liberian Dollars and all other missing items.
Display, in the same way, condemned the act by the dismissed officers and warned others not to engage in such deeds, as violators of the agency code will be dismissed and face the full weight of the law.
