United Nations Goodwill Ambassador to Africa against Female Genital Mutilation, Jaha Dukureh, is calling for initiation without mutilation as the practice of the country’s culture continues.
Speaking at a program marking the screaming of Jaha’s promise to Africa against FGM, at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town Tuesday, Amb. Dukureh said the fight requires concerted efforts.
She also stressed the need for survivors to speak out on issues that are affecting them while suggesting initiation without mutilation as the best way out for Liberia.
For her part, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor welcomed the idea and suggestion of the UN Goodwill Ambassador that there should be initiation, instead of mutilation.
Vice President Taylor expressed hope that the political will in the Legislature will create an avenue that a law to abolish the practice of FGM in the country to be passed.
