The Supreme Court has approved the petitions of Ninety Attorneys-At-law who are seeking admission to the Supreme Court Bar as Counselors-At-Law.
The High Court on Friday, according to our Judicial Correspondent, agreed with the petitioners’ applications and later announced Monday, December 5, 2022, to vet the petitioners’ petitions in the Chamber of the Supreme Court as provided by law.
Our Judicial Correspondent further said that the 90-Attorneys-At-Law have reportedly met the five years legal requirements for admission to the Supreme Court’s Bar consistent with Chapter 17, Section 17.6 of the Judiciary Law.
Some of the petitioners include Atty. Numene Bartekwa, Senator of Grand Kru County; Atty. Asatu Bah-Kenneth, Deputy Immigration Chief; Atty. Alvin Teage-Jallah, National Elections Commission Legal Counselor; Atty. Victoria Duncan, Stipendiary Magistrate of the Omega Magisterial Court; Atty. Henry Barkoun, Monrovia City Corporation Legal Counselor, among others.
In another development, Civil Law Court ‘B’ presiding Judge Ousman Feika has sentenced an employee of the Weah & Weah Associate Law Firm to 30 days at the Monrovia Central Prison for impersonating a lawyer.
Suspect Benedictus Gordon was arrested on Friday, December 2, 2022, in Judge Ousman Feika’s chamber at the Temple of Justice.
Suspect Gordon’s arrest, according to our Judicial Correspondent, was triggered when he and Atty. Joseph Brown appeared before Judge Feika to pray for an assignment for their client of the Weah & Weah Associate Law Firm.
Suspect Gordon claimed to be admitted as Attorney-At-Law in 2018 and presented himself as a lawyer with his working ID-Card of the Weah & Weah Associate Law Firm bearing his name as Atty. Benedictus Gordon, Director for Research.
But his name could not be found in the Liberian National Bar Association’s records from 2018 to 2022 as a licensed lawyer in the Country following research by Judge Feika regarding his account to the Court. Our Judicial Correspondent further said that the Weah & Weah Associate Law Firm has since distanced themselves from suspect Benedictus Gordon’s unlawful and criminal action, saying he is not a lawyer.
