Gbarnga, Bong County-In an effort to dig out some of the hidden causes for the wrong application and missteps of the ceremony leading to traditional marriage, and in a bid to fill in and restore some of the gaps and to educate the largest tribe in Liberia, a book has been written and published on Traditional Marriage in Bong County.
The book is titled “A Guide to Customary Marriage Among the Jorquelleh Kpelle People.”
Speaking in an interview with our Bong County correspondent, writer Davidson Sumo said the culture and traditions of the Kpelle are fading away with great speed.
The Bong County Electoral District #2 son revealed that the culture’s components and ingredients, the original procedure for customary marriage is seriously on the verge of collapse.
” The practice of our traditional marriage procedures is diminishing by you and me mainly because of the introduction of western ideologies, and also by the self-denial of our idleness negligence, to copy and paste ideology, abandonment of our vernacular, unwillingness to learn and teach others and many more are vices responsible for the derailing of the Kpelle culture,” Davidson Sumo noted.
According to Davidson Sumo, if it continues their children and future generation will create a new chapter of culture because the original prescribed ones will no longer be available for them to use.
Mr. Sumo wants the citizenry of the country to take advantage of the book that will educate them about customary marriage something he said inspired his write-up.
The customary marriage academician is at the same time calling on goodwill individuals, government officials, and other humanitarians to support his upcoming launching ceremony of the book on December 31, 2022, in the County.
He further said the book was published on August 20, 2021, in the USA by a publishing firm called “Village Tales Publishing (VTP).
